Max Has a Fish

Max Has a FishTitle: Max Has a Fish
Author: Wiley Blevins
Series: Penguin Young Readers
Recommended for: Emergent Readers
Pages: 32
Call Number/Link: E READER BLEVI  (Level A)
Synopsis: A cute story about a boy who would like a fish who can dance.

While I am sure dancing fish are big sellers, I chose to highlight this book because it does the most it can as a Level A reader to have an engaging story, picture clues, and repetitive sentence structure.  I have been recommending it often to parents looking to start kids reading–it is a great level A, and more interesting than most.  It has also been helpful to me because this series includes the guided reading levels on the back.  When a parent comes in and says their child is a level C but can only read sight words, you can show them the back of this book and the breakdown of the guided reading levels.  Our Level A covers Guided Reading Levels A-D, roughly.

Other highly recommended books by this publisher include:
Cara and Clem series
On the Farm
In the Forest
At the Beach
